Level 3 Certificate in Health and Social Care
This OFQUAL regulated qualification provide learners with an in-depth knowledge of core subject areas in health and social care to support progression into Higher Education, the workplace or further learning in related subject areas at Level 4 and above.
Upon achievement of this qualification learners will be able to progress to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care. The Certificate supports learners’ access to Higher Education and progression to further learning at Level 4 and above, and a wide range of job roles within the health and social care sector.

Aims of the course
These are to:
- Understand the role of the health and social care practitioner in meeting individuals’ needs through inclusive practice
- Understand theories of human growth and development
- Develop knowledge of the role and responsibilities of the health and social care
- practitioner in relation to safeguarding individuals
- Understand role and responsibilities of the health and social care practitioner in relation to infection prevention and control
- Develop knowledge of functions of national and local health and social care provision
Identify and planning for professional development needs.
Structure

Unit 7 – Sociological perspectives in health and social care
Unit 8 – Working in health and social care
Unit 9 – Reflective practice
Plus, one Extended Assessment covering the ‘Core Mandatory’ units set by the awarding body
Placement in a Real Work Environment
Learners will be required to attend placement in a real work environment to support their learning. The minimum required number of placement hours is 75 hours.
How the course is delivered?
This Level 3 Certificate in Health and Social Care is delivered via blended learning. Learners also get full access to online Learning Environment (VLE) which provides access to case studies, learning materials and activities, presentations, and web links. Online tutor support and guidance is provided throughout the course, where learners can interact with the tutors, get feedback on their progress and submit their work electronically. Face to face interactions will be conducted through video sessions or within the classroom environment.
Assessment
All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods. This could include direct observation, a portfolio of evidence and written assignments.
Opportunities for progression
The Certificate provides progression to the Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care (England). It also provides direct progression to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care. This qualification is ideal for you if you have already completed the Level 3 Award in Health and Social Care, as you will already have achieved three of the mandatory units for the Certificate.

- Healthcare Assistants in Community, Primary Care and Acute Health Environments
- Care Support Workers in Domiciliary Services, Supported Living or Day Services
- Community-Based Support Workers.
Entry requirements
This qualification is designed for learners aged 19 or above and should have an appropriate level of skill in the English language, numeracy, literacy and ICT.
Certification
After successful completion learners will be awarded OFQUAL recognized qualification – NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Health and Social Care.
